Why should I choose a propane electric generator over a gasoline or diesel generator for home?

A propane generator for the home offers numerous benefits, including cleaner burning with less emissions, lower maintenance, and no risk of spills. Propane also has a longer shelf life, providing a dependable power source for your standby generator.

How much propane does the standby generator use?

On average, a standby generator uses 2-3 gallons of propane per hour. A 500-gallon tank can run the generator continuously for about five days, while two 420-pound cylinders can run it for about two and a half days, depending on your power usage. Tip: it’s generally recommended to limit your standby generator to running continuously only during the day. Turning it off at night can help conserve fuel.

What types of propane tanks are available?

We offer two types of tanks:

  • 500-gallon Propane Tank: Provides continuous operation for about five days, depending on usage.
  • Two 420-pound (120-gallon) Propane Cylinders: Provides continuous operation for about two and a half days, depending on usage.
Is the tank installation fee included in the package?

How does the wireless tank volume sensor work?

The SMART* Tank™ wireless sensor monitors your propane levels in real time, allowing us to schedule automatic deliveries before your tank runs low, helping to keep your propane electric generator ready when you need it.

How often will my propane tank be refilled?

We deliver propane when your standby generator’s tank is running low to help keep your chosen appliances powered and your home prepared before extreme weather events.

Why Choose a Propane Emergency Generator vs. Diesel or Gas?

Reliable Power Supply

Propane-fueled standby generators provide continuous power to your selected appliances, keeping them running during power outages. If you use a standby generator that runs on diesel or gas, you risk the fuel degrading before you even need it. Propane does not degrade and can be stored in a propane tank for an extended period, making propane standby generators the most reliable option.

Environmental Benefits

As a low-emission fuel, propane burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel to reduce the carbon footprint of your standby generator.  It also means less wear and tear on your generator, reducing maintenance requirements and associated costs, and even extending the life of your generator.

ELIMINATE
RISKS

Finally, you eliminate the risk of gasoline or diesel spills if you choose propane standby power because propane dissipates into the air if released without contaminating soil or groundwater.

Propane Generator for Home: How Does it Work?

When the electricity goes out, your propane emergency generator automatically kicks in to provide an uninterrupted power supply to the whole home or to the appliances you've configured to run on the generator. It starts by drawing propane from the connected tank, which is then fed into the engine to power the alternator and generate electrical energy.

The produced electricity is then routed through the generator’s control panel and distributed to your home’s electrical system via an automatic transfer switch. This ensures that your chosen circuits and appliances remain operational without any interruption, allowing you to maintain normalcy even during a power outage.

Propane can fuel virtually any generator. This makes propane an ideal choice for a wide range of home standby generators as well as portable generators. Whether you are looking for a propane generator for home use, such as reliable whole-house generators, or for smaller, portable home generators, propane provides a consistent and long-lasting fuel source. By opting for propane, you also benefit from cleaner combustion, which translates to reduced emissions and longer engine life.
